This week we hosted an event for retired members organised by Paula Russell and Gerry Sheeran from the Technical and Education Committee and opened by president Deirdre Fallon. This was to recognise a growing cohort of members and discuss opportunities for them to stay involved.

In the Institute’s forty first year it is notable that a number of founding and early members have retired recently and this presents us with a significant and growing pool of experienced and enthusiastic members.

The event discussed the role of the Institute in linking retired members with early career planners and also the opportunities for innovation they see and the role of the IPI and Irish planners in wider global debates in planning.

We will be doing further work on how to serve our retired members and harness their knowledge, experience and enthusiasm.

The Institute is committed to supporting its members at all stages of their careers. Retired members are eligible for reduced fees. For more information on retired membership or opportunities to stay involved email s.oleary@ipi.ie or call +353 (0)1 8788630.
