I am delighted to announce that this November, the Irish Planning Institute will hold its first ‘Planning Week’. This will take place from the 6th – 10th November 2017, in parallel with World Town Planning Day on 8th November. It provides the opportunity for the Institute and members to promote planning and the planning profession. It will be geared towards people who don’t have a great deal of knowledge about planning and the work that planners do. Through events, activities and planning visits, we hope to create greater awareness of the role of planning in day to day life.
The Planning Week website www.planningweek.com is currently under development and will be live soon. The website will advertise visits, events and activities taking place during Planning Week and how you and members of the public can get involved. Some ideas are:
Schools visits: In the past, the IPI have taken part in visits to schools to talk about planning with students. We are going to reintroduce this as part of Planning Week. If you are interested in setting up a visit to a school in your local area, please contact the Institute for more details.
Organise a visit: We are encouraging members to organise workplace tours or create projects displays in their workplace as part of ‘Planning Week’. If you would like to host a tour of your workplace or are going to have a display there, please let us know.
Organise an Event: Events and exhibitions will be organised as part of Planning Week. If you have an idea for an event in your area, please contact us.
I would encourage all members to get involved and help us in making the inaugural ‘Planning Week’ a success. This is our chance to promote our profession and the importance and diversity of work that we do. I hope you share our excitement about this event and look forward to hearing from you.
